Ben Gurion, David, Memorializing

Resolution Adopted by the CCAR

Memorializing David Ben Gurion

Adopted by the CCAR at the 85th Annual Convention of

the Central Conference of American Rabbis

1974

WHEREAS, David Ben Gurion was unique in our generation and earned for himself a place

among the great men and women of our People of all times, and

WHEREAS, we note with sorrow his death a few months ago and recall with affection

that when we last met in convention in Jerusalem he addressed us and challenged us,

and

WHEREAS, the history of the reestablishment of the Jewish State is in many ways the

reflection of the thought and deeds of David Ben Gurion,

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that we, meeting in Jerusalem, unite in voicing our sense

of loss that the death of David Ben Gurion has brought upon us and we join with the

citizens of Israel, with world Jewry and with all who shared his commitment to justice

in paying tribute to him. “How the mighty has fallen”–among the mighty of our People

the name of David Ben Gurion will ever shine forth. May the memory of this man of

righteousness be for a blessed remembrance.
