Celebrating Festivals on Their Prescribed Dates

Resolution Adopted by the CCAR

Celebrating Festivals on their Prescribed Dates

Adopted by the CCAR at the 100th Annual Convention of

the Central Conference of American Rabbis

Cincinnati, Ohio June, 1989

WHEREAS “Judaism is a religion of time aimed at the sanctification of time”, and

WHEREAS our Torah states that we shall celebrate each festival at its appointed time;

and

WHEREAS the “catechism of the Jew consists of his/her calendar,” our adherence testifies

to our unity with the Jewish people throughout the world, and

WHEREAS our observance of the festivals on their prescribed dates underscores the

connection of these holy days with particular events in our history and with the

orderly cycles of nature for which we seek divine providence, therefore

BE IT RESOLVED that the Central Conference of American Rabbis call upon its members

and their constituent organizations and synagogues to observe all our sacred festivals

and holy days on their prescribed Hebrew dates
