Corporate Invasion of Privacy

Resolution Adopted by the CCAR

Corporate Invasions of Privacy

Adopted by the CCAR at the 90th Annual Convention of

the Central Conference of American Rabbis

Phoenix, Arizona, March 26-29, 1979

Whereas,

many corporations engage in practices that violate the rights of privacy of their

employees by administering pre-employment tests that intrude into their financial

situation, personal habits,. criminal record and family relationships; and. many

corporations conduct locker searches, package checks, electrical surveillance and personality

tests; we deplore these corporate invasions of the individual’s right to privacy

and urge that the Congress conduct an investigation of these unfortunate practices

with a view to enacting remedial legislation.
