Resolution Adopted by the CCAR
Resolution on the Security of Israel
Adopted by the CCAR at the 88th Annual Convention of
the Central Conference of American Rabbis
or subsequent to that Convention in 1977
The Central Conference of American Rabbis contains a range of opinions on the way
to attain peace in the Middle East; we are united in our support of Israel’s demand
that its sovereignty be recognized by Arab nations as a first step towards peace
and its refusal to make any further concessions without simultaneous and credible assurances
by the Arab states.
As leaders of American Jewry we call on the United States government to maintain its
traditional position of resisting all efforts to undermine Israel’s security by pressuring
Israel to make unilateral concessions. We consider such efforts to be a threat to both Israel and America’s own interests.
We call on our fellow Jews to remain united in the face of efforts to divide us and
separate us from Israel. We call on our fellow Jews to remain firm in the face of
efforts to impose any settlement which could place Israel in jeopardy.
Referred to the Executive Board meeting of June 23, 1977 and adopted as above amended.
