Maintenance of Union Membership Dues

Resolution Adopted by the CCAR

MAINTENANCE OF UNION MEMBERSHIP DUES

Adopted at the 106th Annual Convention of the

Central Conference of American Rabbis

Jerusalem, Israel

March, 1995 / Adar II, 5755

WHEREAS, the Maintenance of Union Membership Dues (M.U.M.) constitutes the

basis for funding the essential activities of Hebrew Union College-Jewish

Institute of Religion and the UAHC, and

WHEREAS, the daunting challenges of our time prescribe a firm commitment and

staunch dedication to the institutions of Reform Judaism — now more than

ever…

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Central Conference of American Rabbis be

engaged in the dialogue with its partners in the movement, the

College-Institute and the Union, in the process seeking a fair and appropriate

level of funding, in order to insure Judaic excellence and fiscal

responsibility, and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Central Conference of American Rabbis call

upon the officers and members of our congregations to vouchsafe an adequate

source of revenue to uphold their seminary, its union of congregations, and

their communal endeavors, vital to insure Reform Judaism’s future strength,

and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that we recommit ourselves to the dream of our

founder, Rabbi Isaac Mayer Wise, who long ago envisioned that the Union, the

College and the Conference together could greatly benefit all Jewry.
