Peace Treaty with the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan

Resolution Adopted by the CCAR

PEACE TREATY WITH THE HASHEMITE KINGDOM OF JORDAN

Adopted at the 106th Annual Convention of the

Central Conference of American Rabbis

Jerusalem, Israel

March, 1995 / Adar II, 5755

Background

The signing of a full peace treaty with the Hashemite kingdom of Jordan caps

decades of secret diplomatic contacts as well as missed opportunities. It is

beneficial to both countries and widely supported in Israel. It brings

tranquility to Israel’s longest border and significantly advances the process

of normalizing relationships between the two states that occupy most of the

land contained within the borders of British Mandate Palestine.

THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, THAT the CCAR applaud the Governments of Israel and

Jordan for their achievement and urge that substantial confidence-building

steps be taken by both governments and peoples to secure the treaty in

reality.
