Prayer in Schools

Resolution Adopted by the CCAR

Prayer in Schools

Adopted by the CCAR at the 87th Annual Convention of

the Central Conference of American Rabbis

1976

WHEREAS we firmly support the principle of separation of church and state,

BE IT THEREFORE RESOLVED that we reaffirm our previously expressed belief that no

religious celebrations should be held in public schools, and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that we deplore and strongly oppose all attempts to introduce

prayer or required silent meditation into the public schools.
