Resolution Adopted by the CCAR
Scuds and Syria
Adpoted by the 103rd Annual Convention of
the
Central Conference of American Rabbis
San Antonio, Texas, April,
1992
WHEREAS, in the aftermath of the
Persian Gulf War Syria has added to its arsenal of
weapons huge numbers of Scud missiles aimed at
Israel,and
WHEREAS, Syria made no
sacrifices during the Gulf War, but used the opportunity to
curry favor from the United States;
therefore
BE IT RESOLVED, that
the Central Conference of American Rabbis views with alarm the
dangerous position in which these
developments have placed Israel should war break
out, and
BE IT
FURTHER RESOLVED, that we urge the U.S. Administration to recognize
that by
its non-action vis-a-vis
Israel it has forced Israel into the position of being unable,
from the point of view of its
national security, to relinquish any land in the Golan
Heights, and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the CCAR asserts that if Syria is
allowed to continue
its weapons
build-up. the acquiescence in that by the United States Government may
force Israel to take military
action as a matter of survival.
