Vorspan, Albert

Resolution

Adopted by the CCAR

Albert Vorspan

Adpoted by

the 103rd Annual Convention of

the Central Conference of

American Rabbis

San Antonio, Texas, April, 1992

Albert Vorspan, Director of our Joint Commission on

Social Action, retires this year.

He has brought the Central Conference of American Rabbis, our

Movement, and our entire

society

forward with him. In spite of the legendary prophetic thrust of Reform

Judaism from inception, social action has not always been the most

popular item on the

agenda of the

Movement. Many battles had to be fought, the most important one

against

apathy and smug

complacency. Al led those fights all the way and made social action

de rigueur

. Beyond the Movement, he is the respected

leader of the way, both in the Jewish world

and in the general

society.

Al Vorspan is an example of loving

gentleness and has a unique capacity to feel for

people even as he opposes them, and to make them

laugh. Indeed, these qualities add

authenticity to his message. Kol Hakavod,

Albert Vorspan, for a career and

life of enormous worth and consecration.
